Nectarine-Blueberry Jam
Enjoy the sweetness of nectarines and blueberries beyond summer with this simple Nectarine-Blueberry Jam.
Author: Lemons & Anchovies
Recipe type: Jams, Jellies, Preserves
Ingredients
- 6 pounds nectarines, seed removed and diced
- 2 pounds blueberries
- 2½ pounds sugar
- 7 ounces fresh lemon juice
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the nectarines, blueberries, sugar and lemon juice.
- Bring to a boil and lower heat to medium when the mixture starts sputtering. Cook until the mixture has thickened a bit and is syrupy. Most of the fruit should have dissolved with some chunks remaining.
- Turn off the heat and cool for 10-15 minutes before ladling the jam into the prepared jars.
- Make there are no bubbles in the jam. You can gently tap the jars to release them. As you fill the jars, be mindful of leaving some headspace to ensure that the jar seals properly. Wipe the jar rims with a clean, damp cloth (again to ensure a proper seal), place the prepared lids and screw bands.
- Place the filled jars into the rack in the canner with . The jars should not touch each other and the canner must be filled with hot water by at least one inch. Cover the canner, bring it to a boil and begin processing time. In this case, leave the jars in the canner for 10 minutes.
- Remove the jars from the canner and set them on a towel-lined counter to cool. You will hear that beautiful popping sound as they cool, indicating a proper seal on the jar. If the lid bounces up and down when you tap it with your finger, it didn't seal properly. You will have to repeat the boiling process.
Notes
This will fill about 12-14 8-oz jars.

Your jamming party looks like so much fun, I enjoyed Liren and Lisa’s posts as well. I would love to make jam – I hope to get the chance soon! Nectarines with blueberries is one of my favorite combinations so this jam would be the ultimate treat for me :).

These photos are stunning! So lovely to spend an afternoon with you and our friends, hanging out, chatting, and of course, creating delicious treats. And I meant what I said. Please feel free to come over any time, Baby Whisperer! 🙂

Amazing!!! The only reason that I haven’t made any jam is probably the same reason you had. I don’t know if I can properly canned it. You had wonderful teachers to teach that and look how gorgeous products you made! I’d be eating a lot of good bread with plenty of jam spread over it. Beautiful presentation, and it seems like you all had a fantastic time with delicious food! 😀

Jean – GREAT post! Sorry to hear that your fear for Jam making was so prevelant. The good news is that now it is gone. Yeah! I love how you make the jars pretty with the fabric – briliant. I had such a fun day with you and everyone. I look forward to our next group cooking event!! (Will be linking your post to mine :-))

That polka dot fabric is too cute. I wanted to get a few shots, but I’ve still been unable to clear the counter. I think fear is healthy and good, I was so afraid to take speech in college I put it off to the last possible semester till graduation and ended up getting an A in the class because my first speech was on how to make cookies which I got an A on, but it ended up giving me the push I needed. I think it’s that way for you, you are supremely talented Jean and I could see you doing anything. I was envious of the way you charmed the little man, he cried when I picked him up. Can’t wait to get together again.

I was brought up on a farm where jam making and fruit bottling was the norm and yet I have never done it as an adult but my sister does. Love your photos.

Glad you overcame your fears.

Wow, Jean- how cool of a day was this?! I love the way the flats of fruit were transformed into jars of jams to take home and spread on toast all over the bay area! I’m sorry I missed the fun;-( I hope to make the next event where we’re all together. Your photos are lovely, just love the fabrics you’ve been using! I’m so glad you got over your fear and am sure you will be canning up a storm in the future! Have a wonderful weekend;-)

Yay, congrats on over coming your fear of canning, it’s really great fun I think. I love how I can see all those jars lined up with something I made that will last or be given as gifts which is most likely the case with me.
Cute story of you with your sisters, also I can relate to the dropping of English in college, I was petrified of public speaking and waited till the end of my college courses to take speech and I took it in a quick 5 week course :). Beautiful photos, your jam looks really tasty.

I completely relate to your fear of the dreaded Botulism! But that party looks like the best way to tackle fear…with friends, and lots of yummy goodies too.

I can’t tell you how envious I am of your day together!!! First of all, I would have loved to have been with you all, but the jam. Yes, I don’t make jam either because of the same reasons! Years ago when my son was in 1st grade I made this beautiful strawberry jam. The color was gorgeous, the taste wonderful. I made a few jars and gave one to his teacher for Valentines Day. About a month later I opened my own jar from my cabinet and found mold all over the top… I was too embarrassed to ask her if hers was OK, but I never made jam again. Your photos have made me want to try though!

I am so jealous that you all got together for a day of making jam! I wish I lived closer to other bloggers. Looks like an amazing afternoon!

I’m so glad I found your blog. I only had a freezer recipe for Blueberry-Nectarine Jam, and I would rather can it. One question: do you peel the nectarines before dicing? I have all the ingredients and am ready to get started!
lemonsandanchovies says
Stephanie,
Thanks so much for your email. No, we didn’t peel the nectarines and we didn’t use pectin either. Will update the post to be more clear. Just so you know, this is not a super thick jam and it’s only subtly sweet. It’s very nice.
Please let me know how it turns out! 🙂
